ALBUM REVIEW | MOOSTACHE
Album: "The Body Disagrees" | Release Date: July 25, 2009
Huntington Beach band Moostache (no it's not misspelled or supposed to be Mustache. Get it right!) may have a random band name but you'll most likely remember it. Their name isn't the only thing that sticks out, the band is actually comprised of a talented bunch of musicians who have accomplished a great deal for being fairly new. The band includes three brothers Patrick Wardell (lead vocals and guitar), Brian Wardell (Drums) and Sean Wardell (bass and vocals), and Scott Zschomler (guitar and vocals), who is also in local band Evening Hour. The youngest of the bunch at only 18 years old and right out of high school, Patrick may be the baby of the band, even though he doesn't act it unless there are Dippin' Dots around, but he's also the leader and decision-maker.
The band had the May residency at Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa and recently opened for We Are Scientists in San Diego. With lots of shows coming up like playing one of The Living Suns' residency shows at The Gypsy Lounge and an all-day acoustic festival at The District Shopping Center, there's definitely one show in particular that they cannot wait for - their first-ever full-length album release party at The Office on July 25. The new album "The Body Disagrees" is a dynamic and deliciously raw variety of bluesy and folkish (no, not folky) melodies. Just like all of Moostache's song-writing has been from the start, the lyrics are poetic (Patrick's the song-writer). For example, sense the bluesy mood in the song "The Body Disagrees:" "Men don't want you coming round here/No they don't want you singing your fears." Their over-all sound is meant to be raw and real. This is shown in "Dark Room" and "Spiders." And they take it down a notch in "The Planter's Wife" and "Talking Ice-Sea."Ê Influenced by The Walkmen, Wilco and Pavement, Moostache are creating music that doesn't need to be tweaked to sound perfect and smooth. Their music has character, truth and soul, and on top of all that they're all handsome lads.
Catch the band on July 25 for "The Body Disagrees" album release show at the all-ages venue The Office (on the border of HB and Garden Grove) with special guests. Also, check out their new video for the song "The Body Disagrees." They'll take you back in time.
