ALBUM REVIEW | SKIN, BONES & SILICONE
Artist: Handsome G

By Ashley Eliot
KUCI Promotions Director &
Host of Press Pass Music

While Handsome G may have gone through a few name changes in the last couple of years (Regarding Jack and then Handsome Grandpa), the band still manages to keep a solid following and have devoted fans. After cutting the name down to Handsome G, you would probably expect the band to have grills and sing of bootylicious women just by their band name, but no, that's not the case. The fun and pop driven four-piece bring positive vibes with catchy choruses and an upbeat sound. Based in Costa Mesa, Handsome G are set to release their first full-length record under the new name. "Skin, Bones & Silicone" is meant to get the crowd moving. The band's goal was to create a fun record and that's exactly what they have produced. In "Come and Get Some" you hear similarities to The White Stripes, particularly lead singer and guitarist Andrew Corradini's vocals with that of Jack White's. "Better Than Being Alone" has an oldies feel with a Beatles influence while "Bicycle" has a folk-ish vibe with an acoustic guitar, plus the off and on bending of strings on an electric guitar. "Jar" mixes it up with an organ and even though "No Fun" may have a misleading title, it's an automatic head-bobbing tune. And if you're in the mood for some laidback, bluesy country rock, then "Bottle of Whiskey" is perfect for gazing into the sunset out on the porch with good friends including Johnnie Walker and Jack Daniel's. Handsome G will release "Skin, Bones & Silicone" at Detroit Bar on Feb. 25 with Mississippi Man, Billy Kernkamp, Evening Hatch and featured artwork by Keith McCracken.
